Grain stores are often an integral part of a farms infrastructure. Ensuring the right products are used for construction, and the right management techniques are undertaken, is imperative to ensuring the grain stays in good condition
When constructing a grain store it is important to remember certain key points; it is stored in a dry and clean environment; it is regularly aerated, and the temperature is regulated and kept low. If the building can achieve these key points then grain can be stored for a number of months.
Drying the grain is a very important part of the process, as is monitoring the moisture content once the grain is in storage. Grain can either be dried before going into storage; or the grain store can be set-up with driers to allow in-situ drying.
There are a number of options when constructing a grain store and a number of these include using concrete panels, and concrete dividing walls. The concrete panels offer a quick and relatively easy form of construction ideal for a garin store. Panels will need to be sealed after installation and then should be in place for many years. Dividing walls will also play an important part; with a freestanding unit the farmer will have the option of varying bays to allow for changes in crops and crop yields.
